On Tuesday the 12th November we started our field 5 subjects, mine was object. Before starting this topic I had no idea what sort of things I would be doing over the next few weeks leading up to the end of term. We started the day off watching a presentation giving us a little insight into what sort of things we could do. I’ve learnt that this is a very free topic compared to my original subject; fashion design. In fashion we are set a brief and we design and make the clothes that are to do with that given brief. In object it is completely free reign. We can make and do whatever we want without given a brief, the only thing we’ve got to do is stick to the object idea.

In the presentation we were shown different ideas of objects that famous designers had created in order to give us a little bit of inspiration. The one that stood out to me was this architectural structure that had been created by Thomas Heatherwick for Harvey Nics in London in 1998. I liked this image because it related to my fashion design course with the idea of retail. I have also only ever worked in the retail sector and so it is obviously something that I enjoy doing.
In the second part of this first object session we were put into groups to choose an object and brainstorm and try to dissect what the object is, find out a bit of its back story. This was a good way to meet some of the other people in the group aswell. Our object we decided was a dish off a pylon from years ago that was made from glass and some sort of metal.
