After reflecting on my collage and getting feedback from that from tutors in university, I decided that I needed to add in more things that would make the scene a little more realistic and not make it look as if it were ‘in the middle of nowhere’ as such, although that did look lovely. I decided that I wanted to add in some other skiers, not too many just a couple to make the mountains look less lonely and also a ski lift as it’s a relevant prop and it made the scene look that little busier. I also ended up changing the lights so that they were more behind the mountains, encouraging where the eye of the person looking in at the window was actually looking. I also added the lighting at the bottom of the window to this image as it was missing in the original.
After adding in all of the things that I wanted to add after I had created the initial photoshop collage, I finally had a window display. The final thing that I wanted to add in was actually to the outside of the window display. As it is clear from my previous posts I took great inspiration from the WGSN trend board ‘bound sculpting’. This inspired me to not only add the tight elastic elements to the coat and the trousers but I also wanted to incorporate this to the outside of the window display. I chose to have three bits of the band in the corners of the window display like Thomas Heatherwick did for the Harvey Nichols department store in London in 1998. He not only used the space that was used for showing the objects that were intended but he also used the space outside to catch peoples eye and really created this amazing sculpture and incredible piece of architecture.

Overall I am relatively pleased with the outcome of my window display and I feel as if I have used the skills that I have well. Unfortunatly these skills are, in my eyes, very limited as I work best creating fashion design CAD / flat designs and layouts instead of actually physically drawing my ideas of a window display out on a piece of card. Although I do not feel like I have amazing drawing skills I feel that I managed to portray my ideas well of what sort of thing I wanted for my window display and I think that the outside of the window ties in with the inside of it, with what we actually want the consumer to be looking at. This was thanks to various chats with tutors in university helping me to understand that I needed to encourage the person looking in at the windows eye to go exactly where I wanted it to go.
The only change that I think I would make to this is making the mannequin of the skier a little closer to the front as I think it’s a little bit of a weird distance away after looking back at it for a few days.
One thing that I do wish is that I had the money and resources to see my ideas actually come to life and the idea of window displays is something that I want to continue to look at in the future.
