Before starting this terms field brief I was so excited as starting up my own business is something that I want to do when I finish in university. Before we started back at uni I already knew that I wanted to create a brand around swimwear for the beyond the barcode brief. I decided on this after I booked my fist summer holiday for the year, I was browsing online at swimming costumes and bikinis and found a lack of both sustainable and trend aware pieces available. This then sparked me to have the idea of potentially creating this new brand that is completely sustainable, using as little plastic as I possibly could with recycled materials and creating these contemporary swimming costumes and bikinis. This idea mixed something that I love to do; go on holiday, travel and spend time in the sun with something that I am passionate about; the need to clear up our oceans of the plastic that is in them and to focus on the importance of recycling.
After researching on ASOS at swimwear I found various aspects interesting, two that stood out to me were; the lack of swimwear that is created from recycled materials and the mix and match element that people like to pair a bandeau top for example with a tied bottom, or a crop top with a high waisted bottom. This gives you the feeling of being different, not buying the exact same swimsuit as another person.

I also conducted research on Instagram to help me to find my competition. I found that competition was limited for the recycled element that is so important to me. The majority of brands that had the same sort of idea as me were from Australia or France, this leaves a gap for me in UK to produce the sustainable swimwear.
